The Books I Take Around the World… and Don’t Always Read

I love books. And I love travelling. You would think those two things make the perfect combination.

A beautiful destination, a long flight, a quiet moment by the pool, a book in my hand… At least, that’s how I imagine it when I’m packing.

Reality? Sometimes it looks slightly different.

I have actually travelled with three books in my hand luggage because I couldn’t decide which one I would want to read. Because obviously I needed options.

What if I wanted something inspiring during the flight? What if I suddenly felt like reading something completely different halfway through the trip? And what if that book turned out to be exactly the book I needed at that moment?

So yes. Three books came with me. In my hand luggage. Through the airport. Onto the plane. Adding a completely unnecessary amount of weight to a bag I had to carry myself.

And then the long flight started. Perfect reading time, right?

Well… I fell asleep. Then I watched a movie. Then probably another one.

There was food. There was travelling. There was a destination waiting to be explored. And eventually I came home with all three books. Unread. Not one finished.

Apparently, I had taken my books on holiday too.

But I still keep bringing books

Because every now and then, it does happen. I find that perfect moment somewhere in the world when I sit down with a book and actually disappear into it.

Sometimes it’s during a flight. Sometimes by a pool, on a balcony or in a hotel room after a full day of exploring. And those moments are exactly why books continue to find their way into my suitcase.

There is something I love about discovering the world while also discovering new ideas. Travel gives me new places, people, food, cultures and experiences. Books introduce me to new ideas, stories and ways of thinking.

And somehow, both keep feeding my curiosity.

From reading books to sharing their lessons

My love for books also became another project of mine. I created a YouTube channel where I turn powerful ideas from non-fiction books into smart, practical lessons you can actually use.

My goal is to eventually build a collection of 366 book videos — one brain-boosting bite for every day of the year, even in a leap year.

Not all at once. I’m building the collection one book, one idea and one video at a time.

I simply believe that some things are worth building slowly. Growth doesn’t need to be rushed. It just needs to be consistent.

So whether you have already read a book, are wondering whether you should read it, or simply want to discover one useful idea in a few minutes, you can join me there.

WATCH MY BOOK LESSONS ON YOUTUBE

And who knows? Maybe one of those videos will introduce you to the next book you decide to take on your travels.

Whether you actually read it while you’re there… Well. I make no promises.

Books mentioned & books I recommend

I’m also creating a collection of the books I’ve read, learned from or featured in my videos.

And yes, I will probably continue putting books in my luggage. Even when experience suggests there is a very real possibility that they are simply coming along to see the world.
